CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A five-run first inning and stellar pitching powered ninth-seeded Duke over fifth-seeded and No. 23 Florida State, 12-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Truist Park in pool play of the 2021 ACC Baseball Championship.
Duke (29-20) outhit Florida State (29-22), 13-4, and had a baserunner in each inning. Senior Michael Rothenberg and graduate student Erikson Nichols led the way for the Blue Devils. Rothenberg finished 2-for-3 with a grand slam and a triple with four RBIs. Nichols went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.
