Despite losing a lot of star power with four starters leaving after the 2015 season when Duke won their 5th national title, the Blue Devils were still one of the most popular men’s college basketball teams in the NCAA last season.
Duke Basketball competed in three of the four most-watched games of the regular season across all sports networks. Additionally, the Triangle area recorded very high ratings with Raleigh-Durham having the second highest TV market rating in the country just behind Louisville, Kentucky. A table of the four most-watched games can be seen below:
Rank | Average Viewers | Game | Date |
1 | 3,174,000 | North Carolina at Duke | March 5, 2016 |
2 | 3,120,000 | Kentucky vs Duke | November 17, 2015 |
3 | 2,984,000 | Kentucky at Kansas | January 30, 2016 |
4 | 2,863,000 | Duke at North Carolina | February 17, 2016 |
A lot of college basketball fans tuned in to watch the Blue Devils led by Grayson Allen and Brandon Ingram, and Duke Men’s Basketball will probably have even more viewers next year since Duke is projected to be one of the top teams in the NCAA next season and one of the early favorites to win the 2017 NCAA championship.
