Duke basketball: Vernon Carey Jr. named National Freshman of Year

The Duke basketball program has another National Freshman of the Year and it's Vernon Carey Jr.

The United States Basketball Writers Association named the Southwest Ranches, Florida native as the winner of the Wayman Tisdale Award, which is awarded to the top freshman in the nation.

Carey Jr. joins Zion Williamson, Jahlil Okafor, and Jabari Parker as the winners of the award that played for Duke since 2014.

The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 17.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game on 57.7 percent shooting from the floor.
