The Duke basketball program’s GOAT does not yet top the all-time wins list among college basketball coaches. At the moment, that spot belongs to the former head honcho of the McKendree Bearcats, a Division II program in Illinois.
After a 12-16 finish last season, McKendree gave the boot to Harry Statham, who had compiled a 1,122-513 record across his 52-year stint at the helm of the Bearcats. While Statham did not seem to enjoy the bruise to his ego from the boot and had hoped to end his career on a winning note, the chance seems slim that another college would offer the 81-year-old an opportunity to add to his win total.
