DURHAM – Duke University Athletics has announced the launch of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Strategic Plan.
The comprehensive DEIB initiative for Duke Athletics was launched in June 2020 in response to Duke President Vincent Price's remarks to campus in recognition of "Juneteenth's message of liberation of oppression." Duke's plan will operate with three main goals: embracing our diversity; expanding our diversity through hiring, retention, and education; strengthening the sense of belonging within the Duke Athletics community.
"Duke Athletics took that charge from President Price and began the ambitious task of establishing a department-specific plan to implement meaningful, lasting change centered on diversity, equity, inclusion, and — a necessary element of our plan — belonging," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Nina King.
