DURHAM, N.C. -- Sophomore Evan Dougherty and freshman Griffin Conine were selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athletes of the Week after each registered a walkoff hit to help the Duke baseball team to its first series win over a top-10 opponent since 2009.
Saturday versus 10th-ranked California, Dougherty laced a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to propel the Blue Devils to the 6-5 victory. In Sunday’s rubber match against the Golden Bears, Conine drove a ball to right field – his first collegiate hit -- with runners at first and second in the bottom of the ninth to lift Duke to the 5-4 win and secure the series victory.
