DURHAM – Graduate student Caitlin Cosme scored on a free kick with 17 seconds remaining to lift No. 1-seed Duke to a 1-0 win over Old Dominion in the opening round of the NCAA Championship Friday night at Koskinen Stadium.
With the clock ticking down to under a minute remaining in regulation, freshman Michelle Cooper drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box, setting the Blue Devils up for a quality look at goal. Cosme lined up over the ball and took her time before drilling a right-footed shot off the right post and in, sending Duke through to the second round for the seventh straight year.
