KARLSTAD, SWEDEN – Former Duke quarterback Brandon Connette led the Helsinki Roosters to their first Northern European Football League (NEFL) championship last month as the squad defeated the Carlstad Crusaders 21-15 in overtime.
Down 15-0 at the half, Connette led the comeback, finishing the game competing 18-of-39 passes for 219 yards, 30 rushing yards and all three Rooster touchdowns.
Connette and the Roosters cut the deficit to 15-7 on the opening drive of the second half as Connette scored on a three-yard touchdown rush.
It was Connette again helping the Roosters as he completed a 54-yard pass to Alexander Wasiljeff and scored another TD on the ensuing play to cut the deficit to 15-13 before punching in the two-point conversion for the tie.
