DURHAM, N.C. – Duke junior outfielder Griffin Conine was drafted with the No. 52 overall pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2018 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft Monday. Conine is the sixth Blue Devil in program history to be selected in the third round or higher and the highest pick since Marcus Stroman was taken in the first round of the 2012 draft.
Conine is the first Blue Devil taken in the 2018 draft and the 15th drafted under head coach Chris Pollard’s tenure.
One of the top power hitters in the country, Conine has totaled 33 extra base hits in 2018, including a team-best 18 home runs to go along with 14 doubles and 52 RBI.
