Duke and Temple have a pretty healthy basketball history, most notably Duke’s 63-53 win over the top-ranked Owls in the 1988 East Regional title game.
But this month’s Independence Bowl game in Shreveport will be the first time the two programs have ever met on the gridiron.
Duke will go to Shreveport off one of the worst performances in recent Duke football history, a 59-7 loss to an arguably less-talented but indisputably more motivated Wake Forest team.
Duke took some time off after that game, the players working on end-of-the-semester projects, the coaches hitting the recruiting trails.
