DURHAM, N.C. – Duke freshman Kelly Chen was selected as the ACC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week following her 2-1 week at the Rainbow Invitational.
Chen teamed with senior Samantha Harris to win their only doubles match of the week. Chen and Harris defeated Pepperdine’s Evgeniya Levashova and Dzina Milovanovic 7-5.
Chen split her two singles matches. On the first day of the Rainbow Invite, Chen fell to Pepperdine’s 31st-ranked Mayer Sharif 6-4, 6-2. She bounced back the next day. She dropped the first set against Pepperdine’s 28th-ranked Ashley Lahey, but won the final two sets to win 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 6-4 for Duke’s first victory over a ranked opponent this spring.
