DURHAM – Duke redshirt junior defensive tackle DeWayne Carter been tabbed a nominee for the 2022 Wuerffel Trophy.
The award is given annually to the player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
The 6-3, 298-pound Pickerington, Ohio, native, has been an instrumental piece to the Blue Devils' defense during his tenure. In 34 career games, he has compiled 70 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 8.0 sacks, seven caused fumbles, three fumble recoveries, six quarterback pressures and four pass breakups. His career forced fumbles rank tied for fourth in program history, while his three fumble recoveries and three caused fumbles this season rank him tied for first and second, nationally, respectively.
