DURHAM – Former Duke letterman DeWayne Carter was named the recipient of the University Scholar-Athlete Award by the National Football Foundation's Bill Dooley Chapter on Monday.
Carter, a defensive tackle from Pickerington, Ohio, became Duke's first three-time team captain in program history. He earned two-time All-America honors and three-time All-ACC recognition during his Blue Devil tenure and was named a NFF Scholar-Athlete, the recipient of the ACC's Jim Tatum Award, and was a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. In 52 career games with 39 starts, Carter compiled 127 tackles, 25.
