Eugene, Ore. - Virginia Elena Carta is Duke’s newest national champion.
After shooting a three-under 69 on Monday night at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore., Carta secured Duke’s fourth women’s golf individual national championship, logging a final score of 16-under, eight shots ahead of Dewi Weber of Miami and Haley Moore of Arizona.
The Italian freshman set the 54-hole record at 13-under following Sunday’s round and finished the tournament by adding the 72-hole record to her resume – besting the previous record of 12-under by four shots.
Duke now has 24 individual national championships.
