SYLVANIA, Ohio— Competing in the first LPGA event of her career, Duke University sophomore Virginia Elena Carta turned in rounds of 71 and 69 on her way to making the cut at tied 23rd at the LPGA Marathon Classic.
A product of Udine, Italy, Carta carded four birdies in the first round; including three in a row on holes 5-7 on her way to turning in an even-par, 71, Thursday in the first round. She rolled in three birdies and only totaled one bogey in the second round to finish with a 69. Carta is currently the highest ranked amateur in the field at the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio.
