DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University women’s golf teammates Virginia Elena Carta and Leona Maguire will be on opposing sides this week as the duo tee off in the 2017 Vagliano Trophy at Circolo Golf Bogogno in Italy. Carta will play for Europe, while Maguire will be with Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) in the event that will take play June 30 and July 1.
The Continent of Europe is aiming to secure a sixth win a row in the biennial match as GB&I last secured a victory in 2005. The Vagliano Trophy comprises four morning foursomes followed by eight afternoon singles on two consecutive days, with 24 points in total available.
