DURHAM, N.C. – Led by a career-high performance from junior pitcher Brianna Butler, Duke softball opened its 2020 Duke Invitational with a 5-1 victory over Fordham on Friday night.
The Blue Devils upped their season record to 18-4 overall while the Rams went 0-2 on the day, falling to 4-13. Butler notched her sixth win in the circle, dealing seven complete innings while racking up a career-high 10 strikeouts.
Fordham plated the first run of the contest with an RBI double to right field, taking a 1-0 advantage in the second frame.
