DURHAM, N.C. – For the first time since 2002, a Duke field hockey player was named the ACC Freshman of the Year as Darcy Bourne earned the award in a vote by the league's head coaches. Additionally, Bourne and graduate student Eva Nunnink picked up All-ACC First Team recognition, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
The last Blue Devil to garner the ACC's Freshman of the Year honor was Katie Grant in 2002.
Bourne started all 16 games during her rookie campaign in which she led the Blue Devils with eight goals, 17 points and 46 shots.
