DURHAM, N.C. – The 14th-ranked Duke softball team opened the weekend series with a 5-3 win over Syracuse on Friday evening at the Duke Softball Stadium.
With the victory, the Blue Devils improved to 21-1 and 9-1 in league action while the Orange fell to 6-6 and 2-3. Junior Shelby Walters recorded her eighth win (8-0) of the 2021 campaign as she fanned a season-high six batters.
Sophomore Gisele Tapia registered the first Blue Devil hit of the day with a single through the right side, advancing junior Caroline Jacobsen, who reached on a walk, to third.
