DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s golf team opened its season with two rounds in red numbers and finished the first day of the sixth annual Rod Myers Invitational in second place with team total of 568 (-8).
The Blue Devils began the day with a two-under 286 in the first round before firing a six-under 282 in the afternoon. Duke will open Sunday’s final round trailing Wake Forest (567) by one stroke for the RMI championship.
Much of Duke’s success on Saturday was a product of consistency rather than flash, as the Blue Devils carded a field-best 127 pars as a team while finishing just fourth in the field with 29 birdies.
