CARY, N.C. – The Duke men’s tennis team finished its opening weekend of fall action with only singles competition, recording three victories. Highlighting the day was sophomore Nicolas Alvarez placing second at the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Masters and freshman Vincent Lin winning the Duke James Bonk Invite black draw consolation finals.
In Malibu, Calif., Alvarez, ranked No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA preseason poll, battled with TCU’s Cameron Norrie, who is ranked 15th in the preseason, before falling 6-3, 7-6 (2). Norrie jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set.
