DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 14-ranked Duke field hockey team was edged by No. 9 Syracuse, 2-1, in a Saturday afternoon conference matchup at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
The Blue Devils (3-10, 1-2 ACC) looked to rally in the fourth quarter, but the Orange's (8-4, 1-0 ACC) two early goals would be enough for their first win in ACC play this spring.
Syracuse opened the scoring in the 14th minute as Pleun Lammers scored off the penalty corner to put the Orange ahead, 1-0. Following a quiet first quarter for the Blue Devils, Duke took four shots in the second frame, including one on target.
