STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Duke men’s and women’s fencing programs opened the 2017 campaign at the Penn State Duals Sunday with the men finishing 2-3 on the day, while the women posted a 2-4 record.
The Blue Devil men picked up wins against Columbia (16-13) and Haverford (21-6) and fell to the University of Penn (12-15), Penn State (9-18) and Yale (12-15). On the women’s side, Duke topped Haverford (27-0) and Yale (14-13) and were defeated by the University of Penn (12-15), Penn State (7-19) and Temple (11-16).
Freshman Eoin Gronningsater continued his impressive rookie campaign after posting a 10-4 ledger in Pennsylvania while junior Pascual Di Tella finished the first meet of the season 10-5.
