JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In the first round of match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball competition, the Duke University duo of Megan Furtney and Erica Shepherd cruised to a 7&6 victory over Lauren Freyvogel and Caroline Wrigley Monday to advance to the round of 16 at the Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
Furtney and Shepherd shot four-under-par through 12 holes and closed the match with a birdie on the 533-yard, par five 12th hole with their fourth birdie of the day. The Blue Devils did not have a bogey over the 12 holes.
The round of 16 will take place Tuesday morning with the Blue Devils going up against 12th-seeded Sophie Linder and Karoline Tuttle beginning at 8:06 a.
