TAMPERE, Finland – Future Duke Blue Devil Dana Baker wrapped up an outstanding showing at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships on Wednesday in Finland, earning the highest finish ever by an American female in the javelin throw.
On her second throw of the finals, Baker tallied a mark of 55.04m (180’6”) to finish third in the competition. Baker recorded a mark of 51.09 (167’6”) in Tuesday’s qualifiers to earn a spot in Wednesday’s final.
Baker, a native of Olathe, Kan., and the two-time defending Kansas 6A State Champion in the javelin throw, is set to join the Blue Devils for the 2018-19 campaign.
