DURHAM – A pair of Duke University women's golf incoming freshmen – Sophia Bae and Rylie Helfin – closed action in amateur tournaments this week.
Bae, who hails from Norwood, N.J., turned in back-to-back rounds of 73 in stroke play qualifying at the New Jersey State Golf Association 96th Women's Amateur Championship to place tied for fifth. She collected a 5&4 victory over Christine Shao in the round of 16 of match play, before dropping a 2&1 decision to Yoona Kim in the quarterfinals at the Rumson Country Club in Rumson, N.J. Ami Gianchandani collected the title with a 4&3 win over Kim.
