DURHAM, N.C. - Rising junior men’s tennis player Nicolas Alvarez went 2-0 in singles action to help Peru to a 4-1 victory against Mexico in the semifinals the Davis Cup Group II Americas tournament. The weekend's action marked Alvarez's first in the Davis Cup.
On Friday, Alvarez defeated ATP No. 530 player Lucas Gomez in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. Alvarez completed the competition Sunday with a 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3 victory against Luis Patino, who is ranked No. 780 by the ATP. Both matches were played in Alvarez's hometown of Lima.
