Admirable Ball Control By ACC Teams

Most coaches preach minimizing turnovers. A ballhandling miscue is by definition a loss of possession. Independent of situation, live-ball possessions fueling an opposition fast break are the worst.

There have been 17 regular-season games over the past three years (through mid-February 2019) in which ACC teams were so disciplined with the ball they committed four or fewer turnovers.

This season Virginia twice had a paltry pair of turnovers in road wins against Maryland and Notre Dame, the Terrapins in November in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge and the Irish in late January. The Cavaliers had five of the ACC’s 17 low-turnover performances since the 2017 season -- consistent with their deliberate, close-to-the-vest style.
