1980 and 1964 are our favorites.
Over the 63 seasons the ACC has been in existence, there have been 16 leap years. Leap Day, February 29, came and went seven times without an ACC men’s basketball game – in 1956, 1960, 1968, 1976, 1996, 2000 and 2008.
So the 2016 season is the ninth in which an ACC game is played on Feb. 29. As if the occasion wasn’t odd enough, because North Carolina hosts Syracuse this Leap Day, and it’s the last home contest of the season at the Smith Center, the game also marks Senior Night.
