The poor FSU football team must be killing Florida State fans but basketball has continued to exceed expectations.
Aside from the Hugh Durham/Dave Cowens eras, which overlapped (Hugh Durham recruited Cowens, who graduated in 1970, and then took FSU to the NCAA Finals in 1972), Florida State has been mostly mediocre at best and usually bad.
Pat Kennedy had a moment and recruited well with guys like Charlie Ward, Sam Cassell and Bob Sura, but basically basketball has always been second fiddle to football and even now, with football thoroughly mediocre, FSU fans are happier being mad at that then they are being pleased with a steady, solid hoops program.
