GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced the recipients of the inaugural ACC UNITE Award, which was created to honor individuals affiliated with the league who have made an impact in the areas of racial and social justice.
Duke's honorees include CB Claiborne (men's basketball), Felicia Heath (gymnastics) and Phyllis Wilson (volleyball).
Claiborne, who was a member of the men's basketball program under head coach Vic Bubas, became Duke University's first black student-athlete in any sport when he enrolled in the 1965-66 season, while Heath and Wilson are each regarded as the first black female student-athletes at Duke, matriculating in 1974.
