The United States and much of the world began 2020 battling a global pandemic. But something in late May changed the national focal point in an instant.
A series of events following the death of George Floyd, a black man from Minneapolis who was a victim of police brutality, sparked protests and marches across the country in support of and drawing attention to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Protestors gathered in the streets, in front of government buildings and beside monuments calling for an end of violent acts against black men and women.
