25 years ago today, Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski led the team to their first NCAA Men’s Basketball championship. The 1991 national championship team helped to solidify Duke as a national power and to become one of the top college basketball programs in the country.
Duke Basketball had a storied history before 1991, appearing in four previous national title games but losing each one in 1964, 1978, 1986 and 1990. The Blue Devils finally broke the championship game losing streak in 1991, with a very talented team led by Duke greats Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley, and Christian Laettner.
