DURHAM, N.C.— The Blue Devil Network exclusive presentation of “-16 in ’16: Carta Crowned Champion” was unveiled Friday a day after the reigning NCAA Champion kicked off action in the LPGA Marathon Classic in Ohio.
Virginia Elena Carta, a native of Udine, Italy, received an exemption in the LPGA event, after carding an NCAA-record 16-under-par ledger at the NCAA Championship in May to win the individual title in record fashion. She went on to be awarded the Honda Sports Award for Golf and WGCA First Team All-America for her efforts.
In the first round of the Marathon Classic, Carta turned in an even-par, 71, after firing four birdies and is tied for 47th overall heading into the second round.
