TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Drake University softball team completed its second-straight Missouri Valley Conference series sweep by shutting out Indiana State, 9-0, on Saturday.
For third-consecutive game, Drake (16-11, 6-0 MVC) needed just five innings to defeat Indiana State (7-24, 1-6 MVC) by the eight-run rule. On Saturday, the Bulldogs used a combination of timely hitting, outstanding pitching by sophomore Nicole Newman (Madison, Wis.) and capitalizing on three Sycamores errors.
Newman allowed just two hits in five innings while striking out five as she improved to 12-5 with the win.
