DES MOINES, Iowa – In her return to the Blue Oval, Missouri standout and former Dowling Catholic prep Karissa Schweizer enjoyed a historic performance at the Distance Carnival at the 2018 Drake Relays Presented by Hy-Vee on Thursday night.
A five-time NCAA champion, Schweizer finished the 5000 meters on a beautiful night at historic Drake Stadium in 15:23.21, breaking Wisconsin legend Cathy Branta's Drake Relays record of 15:31.18 set in 1985. Schweizer's time ranks No. 4 in the world this year and leads all NCAA athletes this year.
Schweizer wasn't the only runner to rewrite the Drake Relays record books as Iowa Central's Adva Cohen won the steeplechase in a Drake Relays record-setting time of 9:52.
