Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - The 108th Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee continued on Thursday with the resumption of the heptathlon and decathlon while competition got underway with high school and university/college division competition. The day closed with the annual Distance Carnival highlighted by Drake senior Reed Fischer winning the men's 5,000 meters to break a 39-year-old school record.

With the hometown crowd urging him own, Fischer broke the school record and gave the host school a satisfying victory. Fischer stormed past Wisconsin's Malachy Schrobilgen coming in the final turn and won in 13:48.32 -- nearly 12 seconds faster than the previous school record that Boyd Nansel set back in 1978.
