VALPARAISO, Ind. - The No. 25 Drake University men's basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start in its first loss of the season, a 74-57 setback at Valparaiso Sunday afternoon.
The Crusaders became the first blemish on Drake's perfect 18-0 start to the season and were the first team in more than 300 days to defeat the Bulldogs. Valpo's (7-12, 4-6 MVC) defense held Drake (18-1, 9-1 MVC) to a season-low 57 points on 36.5 percent shooting.
"They've had 18 games where they were pretty good and tonight we weren't good enough," Drake head coach Darian DeVries said of his team.
