ESTERO, Fla. - The Drake University men's basketball team nearly rallied from a 14-point deficit but could not push past Miami in a 67-59 loss Monday afternoon at the Gulf Coast Showcase.
Drake (4-2) got within two points in the final two minutes, but Miami (4-1) connected on its free throws down the stretch to escape with the win on a subpar shooting night for the Bulldogs. Drake was held to just 35.2 percent shooting and committed a season-high 21 turnovers in the loss.
"Unfortunately, we built ourselves a hole and got in a bad place early," said Drake head coach Darian DeVries.
