The Drake University men's tennis team opened up its 2019-20 schedule Friday afternoon with the first day of the Drake Invitational at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs had four student-athletes competing in two flights of singles play and a pair of doubles team in action during the first day of the three-day event.
Newcomer David Nyman advanced to the winners' bracket of the 'B' Singles flight with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Nathan Reekie of Washington University. Also in the 'B' flight, Freddie Powell fell to Omaha's Matt Hulme, 6-3, 7-5.
Nyman also teamed up with Luka Jankovic advance in the 'B' doubles flight with a 7-6 (6) win over Wichita State's team of Ovil/Latinovic.
