Freshman Addie Lightner of the Drake University softball team was named the first Missouri Valley Conference Softball Newcomer of the Week for the 2021 season, the MVC announced Monday, Feb. 15.
Lightner made her debut this past weekend and started all five games at second base. Lightner batted .353 (6-for-17) with one double, one home run, three runs scored and a team-leading seven runs batted in while slugging .588. She had two three-RBI games on Saturday against Butler and South Dakota State. Against the Jackrabbits, Lightner had her first career double and home run.
