Late Second-Half Surge Comes Up Short In Men's Basketball's 70-64 Loss To Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Iowa men's basketball team staved off a late rally to defeat the Drake Bulldogs, 70-64, in the first game of Saturday's Hy-Vee Big Four Classic at Wells Fargo Arena.

Drake (4-7) sophomore guard Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) scored 25 points with five assists in the loss while Kale Abrahamson (West Des Moines, Iowa) added 14 points on a 3-of-6 day from the three-point arc. Timmer has now scored 20 or more points in five games this season.

"I'm very proud of our team, we talked about taking the fight to Iowa," said Drake head coach Ray Giacoletti.
