ST. LOUIS -- Drake women's soccer sophomore forward Layla Kelbel was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week and freshman forward Angela Gutierrez racked up another MVC Freshman of the Week award, the league announced on Tuesday (Oct. 17).
Kelbel has scored a goal in back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs. She tallied an unassisted goal when she battled to get the ball back in the 55th minute contributing to Drake's 3-0 victory at Illinois State on Thursday. Kelbel scored the game-winner in a 1-0 decision over Evansville during the 30th minute by tapping the ball into the back of the net on Sunday.
