NORMAL, Ill. - A second-half surge and 15 three-pointers allowed the Illinois State men's basketball team to defeat Drake, 76-64, Tuesday night at Redbird Arena in the second meeting between the two teams this season.
Illinois State (12-10, 6-3 MVC), which came into the game shooting 31.7 percent from the three-point arc on the season, was 15-of-28 (53.6 percent) from the arc with leading scorer MiKyle McIntosh going 4-of-4 from three-point range for 25 points. Deontae Hawkins was 5-of-6 from the arc and finished with 17 points.
"They're more athletic than us at every spot so we have to do some things differently to have a chance," said Drake head coach Ray Giacoletti of the Bulldogs' initial defensive strategy to force three-point shot attempts.
