ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Drake University football team has been picked to finish third in the Pioneer Football League standings in a preseason vote of the league's coaches.
The Bulldogs, set to begin their third season under head coach Rick Fox, return three all-PFL performers and 19 student-athletes that started in 2015.
Drake earned 68 total points in the poll. San Diego was tabbed as the preseason favorite with 95 points and five first-place votes, edging out defending champions Dayton with 94 points and six first-place votes.
The upcoming 2016 season marks the 24th year for the Pioneer Football League – the nation's only non-scholarship, football-only NCAA Football Championship Subdivision conference.
