SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Competing against the nation's best at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, recent Drake University graduate Reed Fischer (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished 23rd in the men's 10,000 meters Thursday evening. The four-time Missouri Valley Conference Champion finished in 30:53.30.
The race was pushed back due to sweltering temperatures in Sacramento, Calif., and despite starting after 10 p.m. local time, Fischer and the other competitors endured brutal temperatures in the 80s during their 25 laps around the oval at Hornet Stadium that slowed the entire 24-runner field.
Nike's Hassan Mead won the USA Championship in 29:01.
