EUGENE, Ore. - Drake University's Reed Fischer (Minnetonka, Minn.) ended the outdoor track and field season with a 17th place finish in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday evening.
Competing in his first NCAA Championships, Fischer finished one place away from earning All-America honors with his time of 29:41.47. The junior kept pace with the lead pack for much of the race, but the leaders aggressively pushed that pace during the final 2,000 meters to stretch the field out. Oregon's Edward Cheserek successfully defended his title in the event with a time of 29:09.
