VANCOUVER, Canada – The Drake University women's basketball team rallied from a four-point overtime deficit against No. 12/13 South Carolina for a 90-85 upset victory Saturday night at the Vancouver Showcase in the third-place game.
The win over South Carolina (3-3) is the highest over a ranked opponent for Drake (6-1) since the 2002 team defeated No. 7 Baylor in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs also defeated the Gamecocks for the first time in four meetings between the programs.
Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.), who was named the game's most valuable player, poured in a game-high 25 points, including 15 after halftime.
