The Drake University men's basketball team spent part of its off day on Jan. 12 at nearby Oak Park Elementary meeting fifth-graders that the team has been interacting with this year. Throughout the year, the men's and women's basketball teams have been paired with penpals.
Both parties have formed bonds with each other through their correspondence before finally meeting in person for the first time. The relationship between the teams and the students was first forged by former women's basketball student-athlete Emma Donahue, a teacher at the school.
