Drake University sophomore Isaac Basten became the first Bulldog to earn All-America honors in the 1,500 meters with a 12th place finish Friday evening at the NCAA Track & Field Championship.
His All-America honor is the 31st by a Bulldog at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and just the third in the last two decades.
Basten advanced to Friday's final after a heroic effort in Wednesday's qualifying heat that featured a personal best of 3:39.57 as he moved up five spots in the last lap. However, against the windy conditions and the nation's best, Basten could not hold that pace, finishing in 3:46.
